I considered taking a rest day after being up part of the night with storms, but it was going to be relatively cool and minimally windy. I expect strong head winds the rest of the week and decided it was unwise to stay put. About half way into the day I ran into a road closure 7 miles ahead sign and called 511 to determine if I could walk around the closure with my bike. A bridge was out, so that would not be possible. They checked to make sure the official detour would be reasonably safe on a bike. It was no problem to ride, but extended the day by at least 20 miles.
I ended up crossing paths with Biking Across Kansas, a large supported ride with 700 participants that happens every June. Their SAG stations kindly shared water and snacks with me. This was especially appreciated because my whole day had been rural without opportunities to refill water. I had planned for this and was carrying 6 liters instead of my usual 3, but the second 3 liters was mighty hot by the time I needed to switch water bladders.
Riding the same streets as Biking Across Kansas also made it really safe since drivers were encountering dozens of bicycles.

I spent the night at Centralia Lake campground and got to swim in the lake. Storms with strong wind came through again and meant another night of collapsing my tent and hiding in a bathroom. There was a lot more rain this time, so the tent got soaked and I was not able to put it back up to go back to sleep. I also passed 2000 miles today.
