Day 3: Sam Parr State Park

Things got shuffled around a couple times today and ultimately it was a short one. Despite that, I still spent a good 7 hours on the bike because of the wind. It’s kind of crazy the stark difference when you hit a town and there is something to cut the wind, but for the most part Illinois is empty fields right now.

Early in the day I went past an oil field. It went on for a few miles and was actually pretty unpleasant to be around. The air smelled of natural gas and was hard to breathe.

After that, I went through a town with the world’s largest rocking chair, teeter-tawter, wind chime, and mailbox. The wind chime did not make noise, which was disappointing as a tourist, but I can understand why locals would prefer it that way.

A couple miles before my campsite, I found a pick your own strawberry farm!
