Day 23: Wildwood, MO

Started out early trying to beat the rain to a city where I could wait it out. I was not so lucky and was soaked by the time I got to Festus. The rain lasted a couple hours, do I did take a long break at Main Street Cafe.

Most of the day I was on the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) or Great River Road. In St. Louis I was able to get on a decently long path where there was also a repair station I used to top off the air in my tires. Toward the end of the day my directions took me on Old Route 66. This is formally recognized as a bike route, however every time I have been on a section of it the surface is not suitable for riding or it’s an extremely dangerous road. After about a mile I rerouted because this was a section of shoulder less highway with a few “share the road” signs.

I spent the night at Babler State Park. The camp was fully reserved, but MO has a no hiker/biker turned away policy. The camp host put me in a site someone had vacated early.
