Day 81: Glacier National Park, MT

Thunderstorms continued into the morning and I planned on spending a second night at Avalanche. Things began to clear around noon, but that did not leave enough time to get up the pass before the 3pm bicycle restriction.

I decided to hike the trail to Avalanche lake. It had a decent amount if elevation and was very scenic.

The weather stayed good and after talking with some park rangers, I decided it would make sense to try riding the pass at 6pm, after the bicycle restriction. I packed up and was ready to roll the moment the clock hit 6.

The traffic was not bad at all. Cars were mostly patient about passing and bicycle sized turnouts are plentiful along the road. The climb was challenging, as advertised. For nearly 12 miles there is continuous climbing of 6% or more. I took 2 short breaks along the way. I got to Logan Pass as the sun was starting to go down, so I only stopped long enough to use the restroom and change into my downhill costume.

By the time I got down the hill, it was totally dark. I camped at Rising Sun in the hiker/biker site.
