Day 99: Pine River, MN

Most of the day there were enough trees to keep the wind manageable. I passed at least a dozen lakes, some with swans. The thing Minnesota does not advertise is that it’s many lakes mean even more mosquitoes. No matter how much bug spray I use I seem to still get dozens of bites.

I went through a small town with a terrifying corn statue.

Once in Pine River, I learned camping at their city park is really expensive and decided to go to a primitive DNR site off the bike path. I had trouble finding it, and after walking half a mile on an unmarked path decided I was in the wrong place and turned around. In the process, I got several new mosquito bites. Back in town, I spoke with a police officer and a local and determined I had just not gone far enough down the path. The police officer also pointed out that a large area over here is DNR. I opted to pitch my tent in front of a bench off the path to limit my mosquito exposure.
