I took a short detour this morning to see the Blanchard Dam on the Mississippi River.
The weather was good most of the day. Toward the evening it started to get dark and drizzle, but did not develop into anything more.
Close to my destination I saw a sign for an Amish bakery and decided to stop in. It appeared to be run by about a dozen loose children with the oldest being perhaps 15 if not younger.
I spent the night at Donn Olson’s Bicyclist Bunkhouse in Dalbo, MN. It is an old barn that he converted to sleeping quarters after having let cyclists camp in his yard. Downstairs, there is a kitchen, a common area with bike tools, and 3 sleeping quarters. Upstairs, is overflow sleeping quarters. There are about a dozen camping cots spread around the hay loft. There is also a display board with every cyclist who has come through since 2012.
Outside there is a shower and flush toilet. The door for the toilet has a hole near the top to let light in. When I was using it, a hummingbird attempted to enter through the hole, which was startling.
When I arrived, there were already 3 cyclists on a trip out from the twin cities, so I decided to sleep in the overflow space upstairs. Donn gave me a suggested route to get to St Paul tomorrow.
